I have only held one “normal” job in my life. It was back in high school and I sold TVs at Best Buy. Since then I founded or cofounded five startups, and been through four exits. My specialty is in the building and go to market phases of the startup lifecycle. The areas that I like to focus on our product strategy, brand strategy, go to market strategy and execution. I believe that entrepreneurs should devote at least an equal amount of their energy to product development and go to market. One of my core beliefs is that, in the digital landscape, the very idea of “build it and they will come” is just false. That might be true in retail or food service but it is definitely not true online. My startup portfolio has over 50 investments in it and one of my core criteria for selecting startups to invest in is just that: do they invest equally in the product and their marketing and sales strategy? If so, I’m interested and if not, it’s a dead deal before it even starts.
