Expert In Film And Tv Song Placement

About me
InstagramLinkedIn

My area of expertise is TV and film sync licensing for music (i.e. helping artists, songwriters, producers, composers and anyone interested in creating music for media to understand how to most effectively write, produce and pitch songs for film and TV show placements.) I have over 20 years of experience in this field as co-owner and Director of Sync Licensing for a successful Hollywood-based agency (www.laurelcanon.com). I am also a long-time Music Supervisor and Coordinator on many major TV shows and films including Three Body Problem (Netflix), Somebody Somewhere (HBO), Cobra Kai (Netflix), many more (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2272266/?ref_=fn_all_nme_1). Finally, I am an indie artist with nine albums whose credits inlcude recording original music at Prince's Paisley Park Studios, performing at the Lollapalooza festival and on the BBC, and sharing stages from Berlin to Hollywood with artists like Sara Bareilles, Jackson Browne, They Might Be Giants, Jack Black, John C. Reilly (www.jamescombs.com) and others. As Director of Sync Licensing for Laurel Canon Music in Hollywood, I have placed music in hundreds of major TV shows (including Bad Monkey, This is Us, FUBAR, Chicago Fire, and Shameless) and ads for companies like Apple and Subaru. Major songwriter conferences like Durango and MUSEXPO hire me to advise artists on how best to calibrate their songs for sync licensing opportunities. As an indie artist myself with dozens of placements of my original songs (including an end title I co-wrote for the legendary Iggy Pop for HBO's True Blood), I have an intimate understanding of how to most effectively write, produce, pitch and price songs to maximize their chances of being placed in TV shows, ads, trailers and films. Because of my mentoring work, I am able to see just how hungry songwriters, artists, producers, and music reps are to gain knowledge of this very niche and misunderstood field. The feedback for my mentoring is always very enthusiastic. I am regularly told my clear explanations and warm, encouraging, nuanced feedback has been crucial for my mentees. I am offering my services as a one-on-one consultant for individual songwriters, musicians, artists, producers, music reps and anyone who is curious about how songs are placed in media. I can explain how things work, we can listen to your songs, and I can offer insights into how best to arrange them to optimize your chances for film and TV placement, and I can answer any questions you might have.
